MANILA — Members who began receiving Social Security System (SSS) retirement or disability pensions between June 1 and August 31, 2026 will see a 10% increase in their monthly pension starting September 1, the state pension fund said.
Death and survivorship pensioners whose claims fell within the same period will receive a 5% increase.
The September crediting completes the second tranche of the SSS Pension Reform Program (PRP), a three-year schedule of annual increases that began in September 2025 and ends in September 2027. It is the first multi-year pension increase in the agency's history.
Most pensioners already received it in June
The bulk of the second tranche was released ahead of schedule. SSS moved the increase for the 4.1 million pensioners on its rolls as of May 31, 2026 forward to June 1 — three months earlier than the original September date — citing inflationary pressures and higher energy costs.
"With the early implementation, we hope to provide timely relief to our pensioners and their families as they continue to face every day financial challenges," SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Robert Joseph M. de Claro said when the early rollout was announced.
Finance Secretary Frederick D. Go, who chairs the Social Security Commission, said the fund was "releasing the second tranche of pension increases ahead of schedule to support millions of pensioners and their families, helping them meet their daily needs and enjoy greater financial security sooner."
SSS said the accelerated rollout released about ₱6 billion in additional pension benefits from June to August 2026.
Pensioners whose contingency — the date of retirement, disability, or death of the member — fell after the May 31 cutoff were not covered by the June release, which is why the September 1 date still applies to them.
The three-year schedule
Each tranche adds 10% for retirement and disability pensioners and 5% for death and survivorship pensioners.
| Tranche | Effective | Covers pensioners as of |
|---|
| First | September 1, 2025 | August 31, 2025 |
| Second | June 1, 2026 (advanced from September) | May 31, 2026; contingencies June 1 to August 31 from September 1, 2026 |
| Third | September 1, 2027 | August 31, 2027 |
Because each tranche compounds on the previous one, retirement and disability pensions will have grown by roughly 33% over the three years, and death and survivorship pensions by about 16%.
A retiree who was receiving ₱10,000 a month before the program started would be at ₱12,100 after the second tranche and about ₱13,310 after the third.
When the program was approved in July 2025, SSS said it would cover 3.8 million pensioners — 2.6 million retirement and disability pensioners and 1.2 million survivor pensioners — and inject about ₱92.8 billion into the economy from 2025 to 2027.
No contribution rate increase
SSS has said the program "will not necessitate any contribution increase" and is being funded from existing fund resources.
"Our actuarial team confirms that the fund remains financially sound," de Claro said when the program was approved. "We've heard the clamor for higher pensions loud and clear."
The contribution rate has been at 15% since January 2025, the last scheduled step under Republic Act No. 11199, the Social Security Act of 2018.
How to check your new amount
The increased amount is applied automatically; no application or branch visit is required. Pensioners can view their updated monthly pension through their My.SSS account or the SSS mobile app.
