SSS Contribution Table 2026 for Voluntary Members and Non-Working Spouses

The SSS contribution table for voluntary members and non-working spouses — same 15% self-paid rate as self-employed members, but with its own MSC rule for spouses tied to a working partner's record.

By Sahod PH·How we check our numbers

Stop working for an employer, and your SSS coverage doesn't have to stop with it. Voluntary members — former employed or self-employed members who keep contributing on their own — and non-working spouses of currently paying members use the same 2026 SSS contribution table as self-employed members. The rate is identical; what differs is who qualifies, and for one group, how the starting MSC gets set.

  • 15% Full rate, self-paid — no employer counterpart
  • ₱5,000 Floor Monthly Salary Credit
  • ₱35,000 Ceiling — same as every other membership type
  • 50% Non-working spouse's MSC is capped at half the working spouse's last posted MSC

The short answer

Both groups pay 15% of their Monthly Salary Credit, entirely out of pocket, on the same ₱5,000–₱35,000 bracket schedule as self-employed members. A voluntary member declares their own MSC freely within that range. A non-working spouse doesn't get that freedom — their MSC can't exceed 50% of their working spouse's last posted Monthly Salary Credit, which puts a ceiling on this group specifically that the other doesn't have.

Who Counts as Voluntary or Non-Working Spouse

A voluntary member is anyone who previously contributed as an employed, self-employed, or OFW member and wants to keep their coverage active after leaving that status — resigned employees between jobs, retirees not yet claiming benefits, or self-employed members between projects all fall here. There's no income test; you simply choose to keep paying.

A non-working spouse is someone married to a currently contributing SSS member, devoting their time to managing the household rather than earning income of their own. SSS treats this as its own membership category specifically so unpaid domestic work doesn't mean zero retirement coverage — but it comes with the MSC cap explained below, which a voluntary member doesn't have.

Voluntary members may pick any bracket in this range. Non-working spouses are additionally bound by the 50% cap covered next. The SSS Contribution Calculator applies these same rates if you'd rather skip the lookup.

The Non-Working Spouse's 50% MSC Cap

A voluntary member can declare anywhere from ₱5,000 to ₱35,000 with no reference point beyond their own judgment. A non-working spouse can't — their Monthly Salary Credit is capped at 50% of the working spouse's last posted MSC before it, too, still moves within the same ₱5,000–₱35,000 range.

If the working spouse's last posted MSC was ₱24,000, the non-working spouse can declare no higher than ₱12,000 — even though ₱12,000 through ₱35,000 all sit inside the normal table above. Raise your own contribution beyond that cap, and it isn't the household's income that decides the ceiling; it's whatever the working spouse's SSS record last showed.

Worked Example

Non-working spouse, husband's last posted MSC of ₱18,000

  1. Cap: 50% of ₱18,000 = ₱9,000 maximum MSC
  2. She declares the full allowed amount: MSC ₱9,000
  3. Contribution: ₱9,000 × 15% = ₱1,350, self-paid, monthly

If her husband's posted MSC later rises to ₱24,000, her own ceiling rises with it, to ₱12,000 — but only from her next contribution onward, not retroactively.

Bottom Line

  • Both voluntary members and non-working spouses pay 15% of their Monthly Salary Credit, entirely self-funded, on the standard ₱5,000–₱35,000 bracket schedule.
  • Voluntary members declare any MSC in that range freely.
  • Non-working spouses are capped at 50% of the working spouse's last posted MSC — a household-linked ceiling the other group doesn't have.
  • Neither group pays the Employees' Compensation add-on that appears on the employer-employee schedule.
